HAPPI Hour: Fostering innovation in designing for ageing

On Tuesday Steve Connor of Phoenix Community Housing and I presented Melfield Gardens to an audience of more than 120 during a Housing LIN organised webinar. We discussed the Passivhaus and highly sustainable aspects of the scheme, the importance of the landscape and how we designed for intergenerational living between postgraduate students and older people. This included building flexibility into homes and communal spaces as well as early engagement work to determine how both groups could most benefit by being neighbours.

We were also joined by Julia Glenn of UK Research and Innovation, who introduced an exciting new funding competition called 'Designed for Ageing: Healthy Ageing Challenge'. There is more information here.
