This project consists of the major refurbishment of a fitness centre which is built around and over the 1965 Bloomsbury Theatre. The Theatre links with the University College London central collegiate building and is within a conservation area. The facility is primarily for staff and students at University College London.
Our commission included the design of a new reception area and offices, refurbished changing rooms and gym area and new martial arts facilities in a converted squash court. The mechanical and electrical services have also been replaced and upgraded as part of the works.
A heavy concrete and brickwork walkway linking the two fourth floor wings has been replaced with an elegant lightweight steel bridge that enables the gym space to be opened up to the reception area.
The proposals are designed to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
