Levitt Bernstein’s approach to sustainable construction focuses on the performance of the building envelope, and the adoption of Passivhaus principles is therefore a natural direction for the practice to follow. What could be described as a proto-Passivhaus scheme in the early 1990s, which formed part of the Milton Keynes Futureworld exhibition, has been followed more recently by an eight-storey new build development and an exemplar retrofit to Passivhaus standards.
The particular technological challenges of the system, from climate and construction viewpoints, are well understood by the practice and form part of our preparation for zero carbon developments.
