The first phase of the redevelopment of four sites along Purley Way in Croydon provides 119 affordable homes. The masterplan vision creates a sustainable, inclusive new neighbourhood, with a broad spectrum of dwelling sizes and types ranging from 1bedroom apartments to 4 bedroom family homes. All dwellings are designed to Lifetime Homes standards and Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
The development creates a series of landmark buildings facing the urban edge of Purley Way, shielding lower rise courtyard blocks opposite staggered terraces of family houses. This 2-3 storey, timber framed, ‘boundary housing’ backs onto an existing terrace and is carefully designed to prevent overlooking and maximise privacy. All dwellings are dual aspect with large private amenity spaces. All homes on the ground floor have their own private entrance creating new active street frontages.
The architectural treatment across the entire scheme employs a high quality modern aesthetic with key accents and highlights on the taller elements which respond to significant locations within the development. The two storey family maisonettes are expressed by a plinth of charcoal brick, surmounted by a series of interlocking elements in a paler cream brick and render.
