Levitt Bernstein wins planning approval for family homes

Levitt Bernstein have won planning approval for 46 mixed tenure new homes for the Hyde Group, in Bermondsey Spa in the London Borough of Southwark. The development was approved unanimously at Southwark's planning committee on 27th March and is comprised of 20% large family dwellings. This scheme forms part of Levitt Bernstein's ongoing involvement in the regeneration of the area.

The scheme integrates an unusually high provision of private amenity space for each home in this urban setting. All homes are dual aspect, with private gardens or large balconies. The scheme utilises extended access decks at upper levels in front of dwelling entrances to create additional private amenity space. Bespoke, built-in cycle stores for each home are integrated into each dwelling entrance.

A landscaped, communal courtyard garden at ground level creates an urban oasis for all residents, with doorstep play elements and extensive planting. Front gardens to family maisonettes face the 'greened' streets of Spa Road and Rouel Road, planted with lime and fig trees. Parking is neatly tucked at ground level beneath the raised rear gardens of family homes. A simple material palette of high quality brick runs through the corner glazed circulation core and deeply recessed balconies are expressed with painted render reveals.

126 Spa Road is designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and 'Building Integrated' photovoltaics at roof level achieve 20% renewables target.
